How to write a blog entry.

If you are not already, you are now a blogger. Fall 2007 will be the first time we transition from papers to blogs.

Some rules though, before we start:

1. Spelling, grammar and punctuation count. Your opinion is always your opinion and therefore is not wrong; I need to assess you for your entry and how clearly you communicate your opinion is very important.
2. While this is a blog, I expect you to speak in formal language. Saying, "I disagree with all those idiot liberals who believe that we should protect the environment" does not make you sound very intelligent, and the harsh language can detract from your points.
3. Never say, "In this entry I will..."
4. Avoid saying, "Abortion is a debated issue today" as an opening sentence. Stating the obvious is nothing novel, and if it was not a debatable issue, we would not be discussing it.
5. Cite examples to back up what you have to say. You need substance to go along with your ideas.
6. Avoid massive amounts of summary. The articles posted are sufficient for a background on an issue.
7. A developed paragraph should be minimum five to seven sentences long. I will expect that you write in full paragraphs.
